Friends, colleagues, and Foster Grandparent volunteers held a reception on Friday, July 28, to bid farewell and celebrate Toni Robinson for forty-two years of service as AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program-Mobile County (FGP) program director.
Robinson's unwavering commitment, passion, and leadership have been instrumental in shaping the FGP into the influential program it is today. Her ability to foster relationships and connect generations has benefited the program volunteers and their mentees and enriched our community.
During her tenure, Robinson accomplished remarkable feats, including expanding the program's reach and improving its overall effectiveness since its infancy beginning September 25, 1980, when Robinson went door -to door enlisting senior citizens for the federally funded grant program (FGP) matching senior volunteers supporting children with for special needs.
Her efforts have ensured that countless seniors and children have benefited from the unique intergenerational connections the FGP facilitates.
(Semmes, AL) AmeriCorps Foster Grandparent held its Inaugural Senior Round-Up
Outreach Event at the Semmes Regional Library on Thursday, January 26.
The event aimed to share information about FGP programs and
services with seniors aged 55 and older in Semmes, Alabama.
Foster Grandparent Volunteer Willie Jackson shares his perspective on mentoring with Kym Anderson, WPMI Local 15 Anchor/Reporter, on her “Targeting the Violence” Facebook Live segment on Thursday, January 26. The segment addresses teen violence and ways the community can support efforts to help curb the violence, and she spotlights organizations and resources available to assist with those needs.
On Thursday, March 16, AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program held an outreach event at Grand Bay Public Library. Community members were invited to learn more about the Foster Grandparent Program. “We want all municipalities to learn about this program and how it benefits children and enhances the lives of seniors 55 and older, says Toni Robinson, Program Director.
